Air India aircraft takes wrong turn on taxiway, faces Indigo plane at Ahmedabad airport

A potentially serious situation was averted at Ahmedabad airport on Wednesday evening after an Air India aircraft mistakenly entered the wrong taxiway following landing and came face to face with an Indigo plane preparing for departure, as per reports.

The incident reportedly took place at around 8 pm when Air India flight AI2493 arrived from Mumbai and was taxiing towards its designated parking stand. According to reports citing sources, the aircraft was instructed to proceed via specific taxiways but deviated from the assigned route and took an incorrect turn.

As a result, the aircraft reportedly found itself directly facing an Indigo plane that was preparing to operate a flight from Ahmedabad to Mumbai.

Airport authorities, however, maintained that the two aircraft remained safely separated throughout the incident and there was no danger of a collision.

Air traffic control immediately managed the situation and instructed the Indigo aircraft to give way while corrective action was taken. The Air India aircraft was subsequently moved back and guided to its designated parking position.

In a statement, Air India confirmed that flight AI2493 had inadvertently taken a wrong turn during taxiing after landing. The airline emphasized that passenger and crew safety was never compromised.

The airline further stated that the aircraft was later towed back to the parking bay and that an internal investigation has been initiated to ascertain the reasons behind the taxiing error.

No injuries were reported and airport operations continued without any major disruption.
