With firecracker-related incidents, road accidents and large festive crowds expected during Diwali, Ahmedabad has placed its fire brigade, 108 ambulance service and city police on high alert. More than 1,100 fire personnel and over 65 ambulances will remain on round-the-clock standby, while temporary emergency response points are planned in crowded markets, including Kalupur and Relief Road.

The three departments have jointly prepared an emergency action plan to ensure quick responses to fires, burn injuries, traffic accidents and law-and-order situations. Staff leave has been cancelled and teams will monitor the situation throughout the festive period.

18 Fire Stations on Alert, Quick Response Vehicles to Cover Crowded Markets

The Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services (AFES) has put all 18 fire stations on high alert. Special arrangements will be made to tackle emergencies in congested areas such as Kalupur, Relief Road, Laldarwaja and Bapunagar, where conventional fire tenders may find it difficult to navigate narrow lanes.

Fire personnel will use motorcycles fitted with water-mist technology and Quick Response Vehicles (QRVs) to reach such locations faster.

Water browsers will also be stationed near major firecracker stalls along SG Highway, Sindhu Bhavan Road and SP Ring Road to deal with possible fire incidents.

108 Ambulances Equipped to Handle Burn Injuries

The 108 emergency service has strengthened its preparedness as firecracker-related burns and traffic accidents typically rise by 15 to 20 per cent during Diwali.

Ambulances will carry pain-management medicines, oxygen cylinders and burn dressing kits to provide immediate assistance to injured people.

Direct hotline coordination has also been established with the burns wards and trauma centres at Asarwa Civil Hospital, Sola Civil Hospital, LG Hospital and Shardaben Hospital. The arrangement is intended to help hospitals prepare for incoming patients and reduce delays in treatment.

Police Increase Patrolling, Cranes to Keep Traffic Moving

The city police have stepped up security in crowded and sensitive locations. Following instructions from the Police Commissioner, the Crime Branch, Special Operations Group (SOG) and local police teams have increased foot patrols around railway stations, ST bus stands, shopping malls and other busy areas.

Traffic police will keep recovery cranes on standby at major junctions to remove vehicles that break down or obstruct roads. The move is aimed at ensuring that fire tenders and 108 ambulances can move without getting trapped in traffic congestion.

She Teams and 181 Abhayam teams will also be deployed in crowded markets to strengthen women's safety during the festive rush.
