Ahmedabad Woman Alleges Sexual Assault by Man She Met on Instagram, Accused Arrested

A 26-year-old woman from Ahmedabad’s Ghatlodia area has accused a man she met on Instagram of sexually assaulting her over 10 days after allegedly promising to marry her. The accused, identified as Kasam Samsud Hasan Ansari, was arrested after the woman approached Ghatlodia police on October 14, alleging that he took her to a hotel in Odhav, assaulted her against her will and prevented her from returning home.

Contact Began on Instagram in April

According to the complaint, the woman came in contact with Ansari in April 2026 after he followed her Instagram account, where she posted religious videos, and began messaging her.

She initially ignored his messages but eventually responded after he repeatedly contacted her and said he had recently ended a relationship and was looking for a female friend. They began communicating regularly and later exchanged phone numbers.

In June, Ansari allegedly told her that he loved her and wanted a relationship. The woman said she rejected his advances, but he continued contacting her on WhatsApp and apologising.

Woman Alleges Unwanted Advances During Hotel Meeting

The two later met at Bhagyoday Hotel near Bhuyangdev Crossroads, accompanied by one of the woman’s friends. During the meeting, Ansari allegedly hugged her without consent and kissed her on the lips. She objected to his behaviour and left with her friend.

The complaint also mentions a meeting on July 19, the woman’s birthday. She said they cut a cake at a dabeli outlet in the Bhuyangdev-Karnavati area, where she stayed for around 20 minutes before leaving with her friends.

Accused Allegedly Took Her to Odhav Hotel

On October 3, around 8 pm, Ansari allegedly called the woman and asked her to meet him on Parasnagar Road. He then made her board an autorickshaw and took her to a hotel in Odhav, according to the complaint.

The woman alleged that she questioned him about their destination, but he repeatedly pleaded with her to stay for some time. Ansari had booked a room at the hotel, where he allegedly sexually assaulted her against her will on three occasions between October 3 and October 13.

She further alleged that he repeatedly promised to marry her but refused to let her return home despite her requests. He also allegedly took away her mobile phone, leaving her unable to contact her family.

Family Approached Police After She Went Missing

The woman said she repeatedly asked Ansari to take her home. On October 13, he allegedly dropped her back in the Parasnagar area in an autorickshaw.

Her mother and brother had approached Ghatlodia police after she went missing on October 3. After returning home, the woman told her family about the alleged assault and the promise of marriage. They then accompanied her to the police station.

Ghatlodia police registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. Ansari, who is from Uttar Pradesh’s Kasganj district, has been arrested in connection with the case. Further investigation is under way.
