Ahmedabad Woman Alleges Husband, In-Laws Assaulted Her Over Daughter’s Custody

A 38-year-old woman has accused her husband, mother-in-law and brother-in-law of assaulting her with a wooden stick and a brick during a dispute over the custody of her 10-year-old daughter in Ahmedabad. The complaint was filed at Krishnanagar Police Station on August 17.

Dispute Over Daughter Escalates

According to the complaint filed by Kinjal Mochi, she had left her matrimonial home on August 16 following repeated arguments with her husband over what she described as minor issues.

She later spoke to her brother and in-laws and decided to live separately with her daughter, Avni.

The complainant told police that around 10 am on August 17, her father, Rasikbhai Mulchanddas Mochi, and her 19-year-old son, Mayank Rohitbhai Mochi, came to her residence to collect some belongings.

Shortly afterwards, her husband Rohitbhai Kanubhai Mochi, mother-in-law Bhagwatiben and brother-in-law Sunilbhai Kanubhai Mochi allegedly arrived and demanded that she hand over Avni to them.

Woman Alleges Assault With Stick And Brick

Mochi allegedly refused, telling them that her daughter wanted to stay with her. An argument reportedly followed, during which the three accused allegedly abused her and assaulted her with a wooden stick.

She further alleged that Sunilbhai slapped Avni, while Rohitbhai picked up a brick lying nearby and struck her on the head, causing an injury.

Following the alleged assault, Mochi went to a civil hospital for treatment before approaching the police.

Woman Details Marital History In Complaint

In her complaint, Mochi also described her previous marriage and subsequent relationship with Rohitbhai.

She said she had been married earlier and had a son, Mayank, from that marriage. Following her divorce in 2011, Mayank remained with her.

She subsequently married Rohitbhai on October 18, 2013, and the couple had a daughter, Avni.

According to the complaint, differences later developed between the couple and they divorced in 2023. Mochi said she and her daughter then lived separately.

Around three months later, she alleged, Rohitbhai and his family approached her and persuaded her to return, assuring her that he would treat her well and avoid quarrels.

She said she resumed living with her husband and that their relationship remained cordial for around two years.

Arguments Resumed In Recent Months

Mochi alleged that disputes over minor issues began again during the past three months. She eventually left the matrimonial home on August 16.

The following day, the alleged confrontation over Avni's custody took place at her residence.

Police Begin Investigation

Krishnanagar police have registered a complaint and initiated an investigation into the allegations.

The complainant's father and son have been cited as witnesses. Police are expected to record their statements and examine the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault and the dispute over the child's custody.
