Ahmedabad Woman Alleges Harassment, Threats After Ending Relationship Over Partner’s Substance Abuse

A young woman’s decision to break off a relationship over her partner's substance abuse turned into a campaign of harassment, culminating in a ruined engagement and threats against her family in Vejalpur.

The victim filed a formal complaint at the Vejalpur police station against the accused, identified as Haresh Purbiya, prompting local authorities to initiate legal proceedings.

The Breakup and Ongoing Harassment

According to the police complaint, the victim and Purbiya, a local resident of Vejalpur, began a relationship about a year ago. After learning that Purbiya regularly consumed drugs and alcohol, the woman refused to marry him and ended the relationship.

Refusing to accept the breakup, Purbiya allegedly began stalking and harassing her, frequently hurling verbal abuse and attempting to force her into marriage. The harassment escalated when the victim’s family arranged her engagement to another man, Purbiya intervened, brought up their past relationship, and successfully broke off the match.

Threats to the Family

The situation reached a critical point on July 26, when Purbiya called the victim's father's mobile phone. The young woman answered the call, only to face explicit threats from the accused.

Purbiya claimed he had already involved her brothers in a police case and warned that he would sabotage any future engagement attempts. He further threatened to abduct her and frame her brothers in additional false cases if she continued to resist him.

Following the phone call, the victim confided in her family regarding the continuous harassment. Accompanied by her relatives, she approached the Vejalpur police, who have registered the case and taken up the investigation.
