Ahmedabad Woman Alleges Brother-in-Law Threatened Her With Death, Intimate Photos; Case Registered

A 42-year-old woman from New Maninagar has approached Ramol police alleging that her brother-in-law threatened to kill her and circulate intimate photographs if she refused to continue a relationship with him.

Complaint Filed Against Amraiwadi Man

The complaint was registered on August 13 against Nareshkumar Bhagwandas Chavda, a resident of Amraiwadi. Police have launched an investigation into the allegations.

According to the complaint, the woman had known Chavda for several years as he was married to a relative. She alleged that they came into contact in 2020 when she was looking for employment amid financial difficulties in her family.

The woman alleged that Chavda offered to help her find a job and took her to a workplace on his motorcycle in December 2020. She said they subsequently developed a relationship and began meeting regularly.

Woman Alleges Threats Over Intimate Photos

The complainant alleged that Chavda had taken intimate photographs of them during the relationship. She later decided to end the relationship and stopped communicating with him.

She alleged that Chavda had been threatening her for around six months, warning that he would kill her if she refused to maintain contact with him.

The woman also alleged that he sent threatening messages through WhatsApp and repeatedly warned that he would circulate the photographs on social media.

Husband Undergoing Cancer Treatment

The woman told police that the situation became more difficult after her husband was diagnosed with cancer.

She alleged that Chavda visited her home about a month ago to enquire about her husband's health and offered her ₹5,000. She said she refused the money and made it clear that she did not want financial assistance from him.

The woman further alleged that Chavda questioned her about people visiting her home and told her not to maintain contact with anyone other than him.

She lives with her husband and two children, a 14-year-old son and a 17-year-old daughter. Her husband is currently undergoing cancer treatment.

Police To Examine Digital Evidence

Ramol police have registered a case and are examining the allegations.

Investigators are expected to scrutinise the alleged WhatsApp messages, call records and the photographs referred to in the complaint. Police will also investigate the circumstances surrounding the alleged threats and determine whether the digital material was used to intimidate or blackmail the woman.
