Ahmedabad Woman Alleges Sexual Assault, Physical Abuse by Estranged Husband

A 42-year-old woman has accused her estranged husband of subjecting her to physical and mental harassment, sexual violence and threats, alleging that he assaulted her at her Thaltej residence after she resisted his attempt to force himself on her.

The woman, an HR manager with a private company in Thaltej, approached Sarkhej Police on Wednesday, seeking action against her husband, Hemant Kumar Meena. The couple married in 2009 and have a 13-year-old son.

Woman Had Moved Out With Son

According to her complaint, the woman moved into a rented house in Thaltej with her son in March this year and had been living separately from her husband since May-June. She alleged that despite the separation, the marital dispute continued and her husband repeatedly subjected her to physical and mental harassment.

Her complaint also refers to an earlier police case stemming from her husband's alleged relationship with another woman. The matter was subsequently settled, she said.

Alleged Assault in Front of Son

The woman alleged that on March 8, she and her husband had an argument at her residence over a domestic issue. He allegedly beat her with a stick and abused her in front of their son.

She said she did not approach the police at the time as she was concerned about the impact of the dispute on her son's future.

Husband Allegedly Forced His Way Into Room

The more serious incident allegedly occurred on the night of June 12. The woman told police that her husband entered her room and allegedly tried to force himself on her against her wishes.

When she resisted, he allegedly assaulted her, pressed a pillow against her face and threatened her with further consequences.

She alleged that the physical and mental harassment continued until June 26.

Husband Later Sent WhatsApp Message

According to the complaint, on June 26, the woman received a WhatsApp message from her husband stating that he was leaving her and the house.

The woman said family members had earlier intervened in an attempt to resolve the marital dispute, but their efforts failed as the situation continued to deteriorate.

Police to Examine Evidence

The woman approached Sarkhej Police accompanied by a family member. Police have recorded her complaint and listed her 13-year-old son, mother and another relative as witnesses.

Investigators are expected to examine the WhatsApp messages, details of the alleged assaults, any available medical evidence and the earlier case registered at Vasna Police Station. The allegations are subject to investigation.
