Vejalpur man sustains head injury and four puncture wounds; dispute allegedly began after he asked the other rider to drive carefully
A minor collision between two two-wheelers in Ahmedabad’s Vejalpur area allegedly escalated into a violent assault on Thursday afternoon, with a 24-year-old man accusing a fellow rider of attacking him with a knife and the latter’s father of beating him with a wooden stick.
The complainant, Salman Umarbhai Sheikh, who runs a pan parlour on Sarkhej-Makarba Road, alleged that he was attacked by Suhan Umarbhai Syed, whom he knew, and Syed’s father, Umarbhai, following an argument over the collision near Zainul Park Society.
Argument Over Collision Turns Violent
According to the complaint lodged at Vejalpur police station on October 29, Sheikh was returning home on his Suzuki Access scooter after leaving his shop at around 4.15 pm.
At approximately 4.30 pm, as he approached the entrance of Zainul Park Society near Muskan Garden, a Honda two-wheeler coming from the opposite direction collided with his scooter.
The rider was identified as Suhan Syed, a resident of Zainul Park Society. Sheikh alleged that when he asked Syed to ride more carefully, the latter became angry and started arguing with him.
The argument allegedly escalated, with Syed abusing and punching Sheikh before pulling out a knife from his waist and attempting to attack him. As Sheikh tried to move away, the knife struck him above his left ear, causing a bleeding injury.
Father Allegedly Joins Assault With Wooden Stick
Meanwhile, Syed’s father, Umarbhai, allegedly came out of his house across the road carrying a wooden stick. He is accused of hitting Sheikh two or three times on his leg and the right side of his back.
People gathered at the scene after hearing the commotion, following which the two accused allegedly fled.
Bleeding from his head, Sheikh called the 108 emergency ambulance service and was taken to a hospital, where he was admitted for treatment. He reportedly sustained a head injury and four puncture wounds.
Vejalpur police have registered a case against Suhan Syed and his father under the relevant provisions of law. Further investigation is underway.
