A 28-year-old transgender suffered serious wrist injuries requiring 20–22 stitches, while their colleague sustained minor injuries in an alleged knife attack over a dispute concerning alms collection in Ahmedabad’s Bodakdev area on Friday.
The two were allegedly attacked with a knife and beaten with a stick around 2.30 pm on October 16, according to a complaint filed at Bodakdev police station.
Kareenade Kaminide Pavaya, 28, and their associates had gone to a complex opposite AP Hospital on Rajpath Rangoli Road to collect alms as part of their traditional livelihood when the alleged attack took place.
Dispute Over Alms Collection Turns Violent
According to the complaint, Zaheer Ghanchi arrived at the spot with several associates following a dispute over collecting alms in their respective areas. An argument broke out, during which Ghanchi allegedly attacked Pavaya with a knife, injuring their right wrist.
When their colleague, identified as Seemade, tried to intervene, she was allegedly stabbed in the left wrist. The complaint further alleged that Ghanchi and the others accompanying him assaulted both women with a stick, abused them and fled the scene.
Victims Taken to Hospital
Pavaya was taken to Sola Civil Hospital in a 108 ambulance. Doctors treated the injury to their right wrist with around 20–22 stitches and advised an X-ray.
Seemade sustained minor injuries. She received treatment and was discharged after doctors bandaged their wound.
