Ahmedabad police and the municipal corporation have drawn up a traffic action plan involving 35 divider closures, 24 new signals and 33 speed bumps across the city.

35 Divider Cuts To Be Closed

The plan follows surveys by the traffic police that identified several divider cuts and intersections where frequent vehicle crossings were disrupting traffic flow.

Officials have proposed closing 35 such median openings. Vehicles using these cuts will instead be directed towards the next designated opening or junction to reduce congestion and improve traffic movement.

Six New Divider Openings Proposed

While several existing cuts are set to be closed, six new median openings have also been proposed at locations where they are considered necessary for smoother traffic management.

The proposed locations include the Hanumanpura Lane opening, the S.G. Highway opening towards Makarba village, and areas near Naz Enterprise, Arsh Enterprise, Prince Chashma Ghar and Star Way Bridge.

24 New Traffic Signals Planned

The civic body and police have also identified intersections where traffic signals are required because of heavy vehicle movement.

A proposal has been submitted for 24 new signals at locations including Vaishnodevi Circle, Sanathal Circle, Ujala Circle, Prahladnagar, Ramol Chowki Crossroads, Gamdi Crossroads, Gyanshakti Circle and Taj Hotel Crossroads.

Signals have also been proposed near Pirana Bridge and Cozy Hotel after the bridge construction work is completed.

33 Speed Bumps To Target Overspeeding

Speed bumps have been proposed at 33 locations where speeding has been identified as a traffic and road-safety concern.

The locations include New Science City Road, Nilgiri Circle, Sindhu Bhavan Road, the new capsule curve near Kargil, Hebatpur, 132 Feet Ring Road, Ambli, Urban Chowk, S.P. Ring Road, ISKCON Cut, Indraprastha Cut, Vejalpur, Gandhi Ashram-Gaushala Road, Chandkheda Crossroads and Memco-Intvada Circle.

Joint Inspections Before Work Begins

The police and Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation will conduct joint site inspections before implementing the proposed changes.

Officials will assess the requirements at individual locations before deciding whether a divider cut should be opened or closed, a signal installed or a speed bump constructed.

The approach places greater emphasis on road engineering and infrastructure changes alongside traffic enforcement.

Police Seek Public Cooperation

Traffic police officials said engineering changes alone cannot resolve congestion as the number of vehicles on Ahmedabad's roads continues to rise.

They have urged motorists to follow traffic signals, remain in designated lanes, avoid speeding and refrain from haphazard parking. The police and civic body will coordinate further action based on the joint inspections and site-specific requirements.
