A widow from Ahmedabad’s Kubernagar area has accused a tile contractor working at her home of sexually harassing her after allegedly entering her room without clothes while she was asleep. The 47-year-old woman told police that the man made unwanted advances and tried to stop her from calling for help when she resisted. Sardarnagar police have registered a case and are investigating the allegations.
Woman Was Alone at Home When Incident Occurred
The complainant lives with her two children and earns a living by renting out autorickshaws. Her husband died four years ago. According to her complaint, her children left for tuition at around 4 pm on October 21, leaving the main door open while she rested in another room.
About an hour later, the contractor, identified as Dilip, also known as Thuntho, who lives in Noblenagar, allegedly entered the house. He had been undertaking tile work at the property for nearly three weeks.
Contractor Allegedly Made Unwanted Advances
The woman told police that she woke up after feeling someone touch her and saw the contractor standing naked beside her bed. He allegedly made lewd gestures and urged her to put on short clothes he had brought.
When she objected and asked him to leave, he allegedly caught hold of her legs and tried to pull her. He also claimed to have brought a drug intended to increase sexual desire, according to the complaint.
The woman began shouting to attract attention. The contractor allegedly tried to silence her by covering her mouth, but eventually left the house after she continued to resist. He reportedly apologised before fleeing.
Sardarnagar Police Begin Probe
Following the woman’s complaint, Sardarnagar police registered a case and began investigating. Police Sub-Inspector R. L. Chauhan is handling the case. The allegations are under investigation.
