Ahmedabad Theft Cases: Domestic Help Flees With ₹27.5 Lakh, Woman Constable Loses Jewellery Worth ₹8.2 Lakh

Two separate theft cases reported in Ahmedabad have left valuables worth more than ₹35 lakh missing, with a domestic worker allegedly fleeing with cash and gold and silver ornaments from a businessman’s home in Chandkheda, while a woman police constable reported jewellery worth ₹8.20 lakh stolen from her residence in Saraspur.

Separate FIRs have been registered in both cases and police investigations are underway.

Domestic Help Allegedly Steals ₹27.5 Lakh From Chandkheda Home

The first theft was reported at Serenity Space Apartments in Jagatpur, Chandkheda, where a domestic worker allegedly stole ₹7 lakh in cash and gold and silver ornaments worth ₹20.50 lakh from the residence of a businessman.

According to the complaint filed with Chandkheda police, 40-year-old Yatin Dineshbhai Mewada, who runs a hair studio in Bopal, was alone at home after his wife, children and father left the city on August 3.

Before leaving, the family had reportedly handed over the house keys to a neighbour.

Police said the accused, identified as Sunil Lilaram Kalaswa, aged around 25 to 30 and a native of Dungarpur in Rajasthan, had been working at the residence for about 15 days as a domestic worker.

Investigators said Sunil allegedly collected the keys from the neighbour, entered the house and broke open a wooden cupboard in a bedroom. He allegedly forced open a personal locker and fled with the valuables.

The stolen property reportedly included ₹7 lakh in cash, gold jewellery worth ₹15.30 lakh, including chains, bangles, earrings and rings, and silver ornaments valued at ₹5.20 lakh.

CCTV Footage Shows Accused Leaving With Bags

During the investigation, police examined CCTV footage from the residential society. The footage allegedly showed Sunil leaving the premises carrying bags along with another man, identified as his brother-in-law, Raju.

Chandkheda police have registered a case against both men and launched efforts to trace them. CCTV footage and other evidence are being examined as part of the investigation.

Woman Police Constable Reports ₹8.2 Lakh Jewellery Theft

In the second case, jewellery worth ₹8.20 lakh was allegedly stolen from the residence of a woman police constable in Saraspur.

The complainant, 33-year-old Binalben Rahulkumar Thakor, is posted as a woman police constable at Vasna Police Station and lives at Bai Saraswati ni Chali near Vora no Roza in Saraspur.

According to the FIR, the theft is believed to have occurred between July 17 and August 3. An unidentified person allegedly entered the house, opened a wooden safe and its inner locker, and stole gold and silver ornaments.

The theft came to light at around 10.30 am on August 3 when Binalben checked the locker and found the jewellery missing.

Gold And Silver Ornaments Stolen

The stolen items reportedly included a gold jewellery set weighing around three-and-a-half tolas, a mangalsutra, a gold chain, earrings, pendants, silver waist ornaments and anklets.

The total value of the stolen jewellery has been estimated at ₹8.20 lakh.

Saraspur police have registered an FIR against an unidentified accused and launched an investigation to identify the person responsible. Officers are also examining how the accused gained entry and whether the theft involved prior knowledge of the valuables kept inside the house.

Police said investigations in both theft cases are continuing.
