A 53-year-old tea stall operator has been arrested in Ahmedabad’s Rakhiyal area with 3.36 grams of mephedrone (MD) allegedly stored for retail sale. Police suspect he was targeting youths and customers frequenting local tea stalls, while the alleged supplier, identified as ‘Sheru’, remains absconding.

The Rakhiyal police surveillance squad apprehended Mohammad Javed Nasim Haider, also known as Khanna Syed, on Monday following a tip-off about the alleged storage and sale of narcotics.

Police recovered a zip-lock bag containing a suspicious powder from the right pocket of his trousers. A preliminary test identified the substance as mephedrone, and its net weight was measured at 3.36 grams using a digital scale.

The drugs and other seized items were valued at ₹25,080, according to the police.

MD Drugs Found in Room Near Biryani Shop

Acting on the tip-off, police raided a room in a narrow lane behind the Delhi Special Biryani shop near Ambawadi Crossroads in Rakhiyal.

According to the police, Haider was allegedly using the secluded room as a base to store and distribute the drugs. He reportedly operated a tea stall in the area.

Investigators suspect he was selling narcotics to customers, including young people who frequented local tea stalls. The allegations are part of the ongoing investigation.

Accused Names ‘Sheru’ as Alleged Supplier

During questioning, Haider allegedly told police that he had procured the drugs from a man known as Sheru, who reportedly lives at Ajit Residency in Rakhiyal.

Police have named Sheru as a wanted accused and launched a search to trace and arrest him.

Case Registered Under NDPS Act

The Rakhiyal police have registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in connection with the alleged possession and sale of mephedrone.

Further investigation is underway to establish the extent of the alleged drug distribution network and trace the supplier.
