Ahmedabad Sweet Maker Scammed of ₹1.93 Lakh via Fake Adani Gas Bill Update

A 49-year-old businessman from Maninagar, Ahmedabad, lost ₹1.93 lakh after cyber fraudsters hacked his mobile phone using a malicious application under the pretext of updating a pending Adani gas bill.

The victim, Pinanbhai Kela, who runs a sweet factory and resides in Jalasmriti Apartment, received a call from an unidentified phone number on September 3, 2026, while he was at home. The caller threatened to disconnect his gas connection immediately unless the outstanding payment was settled the same day.

₹13 Update Trap Leads to Phone Hack

To gain Kela’s trust, the fraudster asked him to pay a nominal fee of ₹13 online to update his account details. The caller then sent an Android Package (APK) file to his phone and guided him to install and process the application.

Once the application was installed, the perpetrator gained remote access to the victim's device.

Fraudsters Drain ₹1.93 Lakh in Two Transactions

Within 10 minutes of the installation, Kela received bank alerts showing two unauthorized debits from his account one for ₹1,01,800 and another for ₹91,620 totalling ₹1.93 lakh.

Realising he had been defrauded, Kela rushed to his bank to block the account to prevent further losses. He subsequently reported the incident to the national cyber crime helpline 1930 and lodged an official complaint.

The Maninagar police have registered a case and initiated an investigation to trace the fraudsters.
