The Ahmedabad Crime Branch’s SOG arrested a 45-year-old autorickshaw driver with 184 grams of suspected ganja near Vasna APMC Metro station on Monday.

Driver Held With 184g Ganja

The accused, identified as Mohammad Arif Mazhar Hussain Syed, a resident of Nurnagar behind Golden Talkies in Vatva, was intercepted on the road connecting Vejalpur and Shyamal around 5 pm on October 5.

Police said the action followed a tip-off received around 2 pm that Syed was allegedly carrying and selling ganja from his autorickshaw near the metro station.

During the search, officers allegedly found a yellow bag beneath the driver’s seat. It contained a black plastic bag holding 90 small transparent packets filled with a plant-based substance.

An FSL officer conducted a preliminary test, which reportedly indicated the presence of cannabis. The seized ganja weighed 184 grams and was valued at around ₹9,200.

Autorickshaw, Phones Seized

The SOG also seized two mobile phones valued at around ₹5,500 and the autorickshaw, estimated to be worth ₹50,000. The total value of the seized articles was put at ₹64,700.

The narcotic substance and its packaging were sealed and preserved for further forensic examination.

Police have also named Ubaid Amanullah Khan Pathan, a resident of Fatehwadi, alleging his involvement in the sale of the drug.

Probe Into Drug Supply Network

The SOG Crime Branch has registered a case under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Investigators are probing the source of the ganja, the alleged distribution network and whether more people were involved in procuring or selling the narcotic substance.
