Ahmedabad Court Rejects Woman’s Bail in Insurance Fraud Case Involving Fake Death Claims, Cites Alleged Criminal Conspiracy

An Ahmedabad Sessions Court has rejected the bail application of Geetaben Rajubhai Patani, who is accused of conspiring with others to fraudulently obtain insurance payouts by manipulating records concerning the death of policyholders.

Sessions Judge J.I. Patel rejected Pattani’s plea after the prosecution alleged that she had taken an insurance policy from India First Life Insurance Company by showing her deceased husband as alive and later submitted a false death certificate to claim the policy proceeds.

Alleged Use of Bogus Documents

According to the prosecution, the accused allegedly prepared and used bogus documents to obtain insurance policies by showing people who had already died as being alive.

The accused are also alleged to have prepared false death certificates that were not issued by the concerned gram panchayats and used them to submit fraudulent death claims to obtain financial benefits.

The prosecution argued that Pattani had participated in the alleged conspiracy and specifically cited the policy taken by her in her husband’s name despite his death.

Bail Plea Rejected

While opposing the bail application, the prosecution urged the court to reject the plea, maintaining that the allegations pointed to a coordinated conspiracy involving multiple accused.

After considering the submissions, Judge J.I. Patel observed that the accused had allegedly acted together as part of a criminal conspiracy and rejected Pattani’s bail application.
