Ahmedabad Schools Face Action: EduNova Recognition Cancelled, Natraj Grant Slashed

After several months, the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board has cancelled the recognition of EduNova School in the Maninagar area over multiple irregularities and violations of regulations.

The school reportedly lacked educational Building Use (BU) permission and adequate sports facilities, including its own playground. If students were admitted during the current academic year, their admissions will be cancelled, and they will have to be transferred to other schools.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Schools has ordered a 100% cut in the maintenance grant for Natraj School in Odhav for the 2025–26 academic year.

EduNova’s recognition cancelled after complaints

EduNova School, operated by the Shri Sai Medical Research and Education Trust, was established in 2015. A complaint regarding several irregularities was filed in September 2024.

According to the District Education Officer’s (DEO) report, the school has 369 students in Classes 9 to 12. The board’s findings reportedly revealed that the school had commercial BU permission but lacked educational BU permission.

Other issues included safety concerns related to gas cylinders in the chemistry laboratory, conducting academic activities after school hours, running JEE and NEET coaching classes, and collecting fees in cash.

The school reportedly has eight science-stream divisions in Classes 9 to 12 in English medium and two divisions in Gujarati medium. It also lacked its own sports ground, while the ground shown by the school was located at a distance.

As a result, the board cancelled the registration of Classes 9 and 10 in Gujarati and English medium, as well as Class 11 Science and General Stream in both mediums. The index numbers for Classes 10 and 12 were also cancelled.

The DEO has been instructed to arrange for the issuance of leaving certificates (LCs) to all 369 students so that they can be transferred to other schools.

Natraj School faces 100% grant cut

The Ahmedabad City DEO conducted a site inspection of Natraj High School in Odhav and submitted a report to the government.

According to the report, the school continued classes by admitting repeat students in Classes 10 and 12. It also allegedly collected unauthorised fees from students in grant-in-aid classes from Classes 9 to 12.

The inspection reportedly found that physical attendance was below 50%. Additionally, proposals related to CPF and higher pay scales had not been submitted.

In view of these irregularities, the Commissioner of Schools ordered a 100% deduction from the school’s maintenance grant for 2025–26. An earlier order had imposed a 25% grant cut on the school.
