Ahmedabad School CCTVs Turned Off as Class 8 Student Suffers Deep Cut Requiring 15 Stitches, Sparks Row

An eighth-standard student of Sharda Vidyamandir in Ahmedabad’s Bhuyangdev area suffered a severe hand injury while leaving the school premises on August 31, requiring 15 stitches and prompting the District Education Officer (DEO) to demand a full report and surveillance footage.

The boy reached his school van bleeding profusely, after which the driver administered basic first aid and drove him home. Seeing the depth of the sharp wound, his family rushed him to a hospital for immediate medical intervention.

Technical Glitch Claim Raises Suspicion

When the parents approached the school administration to view CCTV footage and determine how the injury occurred, authorities initially told them to visit on Monday. The school later claimed a technical glitch prevented recording at that specific time, despite the surveillance cameras functioning throughout the rest of the day.

DEO Steps In After Cover-Up Allegations

The school principal faced sharp criticism for failing to report the incident to either the school management or the DEO's office for six days, raising concerns of an attempt to suppress the matter.

Taking serious note of the negligence, the DEO issued strict instructions to the school to submit a detailed report along with all available footage. Officials are currently investigating whether the student was assaulted or suffered an accidental injury.
