Mithakhali Underpass Closed for 102 in Just 0.55 Inches of Rain in Ahmedabad

The city recorded an average 0.55 inches of rain on Sunday, but the Mithakhali underpass had to be closed for 102 minutes after heavy rainfall in the afternoon.

Rain accompanied by strong winds lashed several parts of Ahmedabad after 3.15 pm, affecting both western and eastern areas of the city.

Mithakhali Underpass Shut for 102 Minutes

The Mithakhali underpass was closed at 3.50 pm as a safety measure following the spell of heavy rain.

Rainwater accumulated inside the underpass, prompting civic teams to carry out water drainage and cleaning operations. The underpass was reopened for traffic at 5.32 pm after the work was completed.

Western Ahmedabad Records Heavier Rain

Western Ahmedabad received the heaviest rainfall in several pockets.

The Sarkhej Urban Health Centre area recorded the highest rainfall at 1.73 inches, followed by Sarkhej at 1.59 inches and Vasna at 1.48 inches.

Tagore Control recorded 1.36 inches, Maktampura 1.32 inches and Jodhpur 1.18 inches. Navrangpura and Memnagar received 0.91 inches each, while Bodakdev and Asarwa recorded 0.89 inches each.

Other areas also received varying amounts of rain, including Usmanpura at 0.67 inches and Motera at 0.65 inches.

As of 6 pm on September 20, Ahmedabad's cumulative average rainfall for the monsoon stood at 903.88 mm, or 35.59 inches.

Three Waterlogging Complaints Received

According to the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation's report, three complaints related to waterlogging were received between 10 am and 6 pm.

Of these, two complaints were resolved, while work on one complaint was still underway. The civic body also received three complaints about fallen trees, all of which were resolved.
