Ahmedabad Railway Division Records ₹830 Crore Revenue In October; Earnings from Passengers Rise 10%

The Ahmedabad Division of Western Railway generated ₹830 crore in revenue in October 2026, driven by higher freight earnings, a 10% rise in passenger revenue and a 35% surge in parcel traffic.

Freight operations contributed the largest share, generating ₹655 crore, while passenger ticketing brought in ₹164.75 crore. The division also earned ₹7 crore from parcel services and recovered ₹3.25 crore through ticket-checking operations.

The division recorded growth across its commercial activities while handling the festive-season rush through additional train services and improved passenger facilities.

Freight Revenue Touches ₹655 Crore, Passenger Earnings Rise 10%

Freight earnings increased 7% to ₹655 crore in October, compared with ₹612 crore during the corresponding period last year.

Passenger revenue rose by around 10% to ₹164.75 crore from ₹149.50 crore in October 2025. The parcel business recorded one of the sharpest increases, with earnings climbing 35% to ₹7 crore against ₹5.17 crore a year earlier.

Ticket-checking operations contributed another ₹3.25 crore to the division's revenue.

46 Special Train Trips Carry 58,000 Passengers

To manage increased travel demand during the festive season, the Ahmedabad Division operated 46 special train trips in October. These services enabled around 58,000 passengers to secure confirmed travel and generated ₹5.28 crore in revenue.

Two new services were also introduced on October 30 — the Sabarmati–Varanasi Superfast Express and the Becharaji–Sabarmati MEMU train.

The Sabarmati–Katosan Road MEMU train also received an additional stoppage at Chandkheda Road station from October 28.

Ticket-Checking Drives Recover ₹38.62 Lakh

The division conducted intensive ticket-checking drives at Ahmedabad, Sabarmati, Gandhidham, Mehsana, Bhuj, Palanpur and Viramgam stations.

During these operations, officials caught 4,166 passengers travelling without tickets or with irregular tickets and collected ₹38.62 lakh in fines.

Separate enforcement drives resulted in ₹60,000 in fines across 90 cases involving nuisance and littering. Another ₹22,000 was collected in 11 cases related to smoking.

Parcel Leases, Advertising Add to Non-Fare Revenue

The division also expanded its non-fare revenue through commercial contracts and advertising arrangements.

A three-year lease agreement covering two parcel-space properties is expected to generate ₹11.13 crore. A five-year contract for digital storage lockers has also been awarded at Asarva station.

Advertising revenue is being generated through rights on the foot overbridge at Maninagar, seven lifts at Ahmedabad station and car displays within the Divisional Railway Manager's office campus.

Digital payments accounted for 20.26% of reserved ticket bookings through the Passenger Reservation System (PRS) and 37.34% of unreserved bookings through the Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) in October.

Cargo Terminal, Parking and Local Product Stalls

Infrastructure and passenger amenity projects also featured in the division's October performance.

Development of a Gati Shakti Cargo Terminal is underway at Khakharechi, while a three-year contract for pay-and-park facilities has been awarded at Bhuj station.

To promote local products and support small businesses, the division allocated seven One Station One Product stalls across five stations.

Ahmedabad Division Tops Rail Madad Feedback Ranking

The Ahmedabad Division secured the first position across the Indian Railways network in October 2026 based on passenger feedback received through the Rail Madad portal.

Ahmedabad Divisional Railway Manager Ved Prakash attributed the division's performance to the collective efforts of its officers and staff.

He said their dedicated work had helped deliver strong results across commercial operations and passenger services during the month.
