Ahmedabad Railway Division Earns ₹804.58 Crore in August, Revenue Rises by ₹26.38 Crore

The Ahmedabad Division of Western Railway recorded total earnings of ₹804.58 crore in August 2026, marking a ₹26.38 crore increase over the ₹778.20 crore earned in August last year.

Freight Operations Drive Revenue Growth

Freight transport remained the biggest contributor to the division’s earnings. During August, the division loaded 4.4651 million tonnes of goods, exceeding its target by 7%.

Revenue from freight operations stood at ₹631.31 crore, up 6.13% compared with August 2025.

The parcel business also posted stronger figures. Revenue from parcels reached ₹7.17 crore, 9% above the monthly target and 14% higher than the ₹6.29 crore recorded a year earlier.

Ticket checking generated another ₹2.48 crore, representing a 21% increase over the previous year.

DFC Sees More Than 100 Train Interchanges Daily

Train operations also recorded higher activity during the month. The Ahmedabad Division handled an average of 218.84 train interchanges per day in August, 2.5% higher than last year.

At Dedicated Freight Corridor points, the average interchange rose to 100.81 trains a day, an increase of 11.8%.

To improve operational capacity, automatic signalling was commissioned on the Samakhiyali-Vondh-Bhachau, Sanand-Chharodi-Jakhwada and Ambliasan-Jagudan-Mehesana-Bhandu Motidau sections.

The division also operated 365 long-haul trains during August.

Catering Checks Lead to ₹34.50 Lakh Fine

The division stepped up inspections of catering facilities to enforce food safety and hygiene standards.

Surprise checks were carried out at all 14 base kitchens and one refreshment room. Officials imposed fines totalling ₹34.50 lakh for serious irregularities, while 26 catering units were closed over various deficiencies.

Ticket Checking Campaign Catches 1,678 Cases

Special ticket-checking drives during August detected 1,678 cases of irregular travel. Railway authorities collected ₹15.74 lakh in fines from these cases.

The division also intensified efforts to keep railway premises clean and smoke-free. Around 988 cases involving littering and spitting were detected, resulting in fines totalling ₹2.47 lakh.

Nine cases of smoking were also recorded, with ₹18,000 collected in penalties.

The August figures show growth across freight, parcel, ticket checking and other revenue streams, alongside increased train movement and enforcement activity across the Ahmedabad Division.
