The Ahmedabad Division of Western Railway recorded freight revenue of ₹636.18 crore in September 2026, a rise of around 7% compared with ₹595.16 crore in September 2025, according to railway figures. The division loaded a total of 4.559 million tonnes of freight during the month.

Of the 90 rakes loaded on September 30, 27 rakes comprising 1,110 wagons were loaded in the Ahmedabad area, while 63 rakes comprising 2,789 wagons were loaded in the Gandhidham area.

Earlier, on September 25, the Ahmedabad area had recorded its highest single-day loading of 30 rakes, comprising 1,139 wagons. The division recorded an average daily loading of 3,126.93 wagons during September.

Fertiliser Loading Jumps 61%

The division reported growth in the loading of several major commodities during September 2026.

The average speed of goods trains, including yarding and stabling time, increased from 13.18 kmph to 14.93 kmph, a rise of 13.28%, according to the division's figures.

Passenger Train Punctuality Improves To 96.58%

Passenger services also recorded improvements during the month. The division operated 6,397 passenger trains in September, compared with 6,029 in September 2025, an increase of 6.10%.

The punctuality of mail and express trains improved from 93.78% to 96.58%. To accommodate additional passenger demand, 429 extra coaches were attached to regular trains, while 22 indented VP coaches were also provided.

Country's First Diesel-LNG Dual-Fuel Train Launched

The division also launched the country's first diesel-LNG dual-fuel-operated train from Sabarmati station during September.

In another development, a container rake was operated for the first time from the Gati Shakti Cargo Terminal at Shivalakha to Miraj, generating additional revenue of ₹32.32 lakh.

A new CMS kiosk was also commissioned at Samakhiali on September 23 as part of efforts to expand railway services and revenue sources.
