Ahmedabad Police Invoke GUJCTOC Against Three Alleged 'Babu Kalia Gang' Members

Ahmedabad Police have invoked the Gujarat Control of Terrorism and Organised Crime Act (GUJCTOC) against three alleged members of the ‘Babu Kalia gang’ in connection with arms, assault, narcotics and intimidation cases.

The action was taken by Zone-7 police after an investigation into an arms-related case registered at Vejalpur police station. Police said a review of the accused’s criminal records pointed to organised criminal activity across several parts of Ahmedabad.

17 Serious Cases Under Scanner

According to police, their investigation uncovered 17 serious cases linked to the gang and its members across Vejalpur, Vatva, Danilimda and the Detection of Crime Branch (DCB).

The cases include alleged illegal possession and sale of firearms, violent assaults, attempt to murder, narcotics offences, criminal intimidation and other serious crimes.

Police said the accused had previously faced preventive action under Prevention of Anti-Social Activities Act (PASA) and provisions of the CrPC. Despite these measures and conditional bail granted by courts in some cases, they allegedly continued their activities.

Based on the investigation, Vejalpur police prepared a proposal for action under the GUJCTOC Act, 2015. The proposal was approved by the Ahmedabad Police Commissioner, following which relevant provisions of the organised crime law were added to the case.

Three Accused Named

Current status: Two accused are in judicial custody, while Rozan Khan remains wanted.

Mujahid Ali alias Babu Kalia Sakir Ali Nai, 33: Resident of Bilal Duplex near Fatehwadi; currently in judicial custody. Police said his criminal record dates back to 2017 and includes multiple firearms, assault, intimidation and weapon-possession cases.

Babu Kalia’s criminal record: Police cited DCB firearms cases from 2017, 2023 and 2025, along with a 2025 Danilimda case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and a 2026 Vejalpur case under the BNS and Arms Act.

Murder-related cases: His name appeared in two older murder-related cases. He was acquitted in a 2018 Vejalpur case, while police alleged he acted as an arms supplier in a 2023 murder case registered at Bavlu police station in Mehsana district.

Wasim alias Demo Usman Abdul Ghaffar Sheikh, 26: Resident of Fatema Duplex near Ibrahim Masjid, Fatehwadi. Police have linked him to several Vejalpur cases involving alleged assault, intimidation and unlawful possession of weapons.

Rozan Khan alias Shezan Wahid Khan Pathan, 23: Resident of Aksha Duplex in Fatehwadi and currently wanted by police. His name appears in three Vejalpur cases, including the latest arms-related case that led to the GUJCTOC action.

Police Step Up Action Against Organised Crime

The latest case is part of Ahmedabad Police's wider action against alleged organised criminal groups.

Police said the objective is to dismantle gangs accused of creating fear among residents and prevent habitual offenders from continuing criminal activities despite earlier preventive measures.

The investigation is being conducted by Assistant Commissioner of Police S M Patel of N Division. Further investigation is underway to establish the alleged role of each accused in the various cases and determine whether they were involved in other offences.

The operation was carried out under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone-7, Shivam Verma, IPS, with Vejalpur Police Inspector R M Chauhan and other police personnel involved in the action.
