A nearly 10-day-old newborn was allegedly abandoned at the old Geetamandir ST bus stand in Ahmedabad, prompting the Kagadapith police to launch an investigation to trace the woman suspected of leaving the baby behind.
The newborn was found in an open area between the Khodalraj Nasta shop and the Heritage Gate near Krishna Medical Store inside the bus stand. Police suspect that the woman may have abandoned the baby to conceal the birth.
Woman Seen Leaving Baby At Bus Stand
The Kagadapith police She-Team reached the spot after receiving information about the abandoned newborn. The team found the baby lying unattended and immediately began efforts to identify the child’s family.
An announcement was also made through the bus stand’s public address system, but no relative or guardian came forward to claim the newborn.
Police subsequently checked CCTV footage from the area. The footage showed an unidentified woman, believed to be around 35 to 40 years old, wearing a mehendi-coloured saree, leaving the spot at around 2:05 pm after allegedly abandoning the baby.
Newborn Taken To LG Hospital
The She-Team took the newborn to the paediatric ward of LG Hospital, where the baby was provided medical treatment.
After being discharged from the hospital, the newborn was handed over to Mahipatram Rupram Ashram, which cares for abandoned children.
Police Launch Search For Woman
The Kagadapith police have registered a case against the unidentified woman in connection with the abandonment of the newborn.
Investigators are examining CCTV footage and gathering information to identify and trace the woman.
