A dispute over a chair during Navratri Garba celebrations at Sarjan Sky Society in Ahmedabad’s Nava Naroda has led to cross-complaints, with a woman accusing a fellow resident and her father of assault.
Naroda Police have registered a case against Nidhi Ladva and her father, Chhaganbhai Ladva, following a complaint by 50-year-old Hinaben Rajendrabhai Panchal. The development comes a day after Anilbhai Nayak filed a complaint alleging that the society chairman and a traffic police head constable were assaulted with sticks and fists.
Woman Alleges Assault Over Chair
According to Hinaben’s complaint, she was attending Garba celebrations at Sarjan Sky Society, opposite the 108 Call Centre in the Naroda-Hanspura area. She alleged that she left her chair to join other women in the dance and returned around 11 pm to find Nidhi attempting to occupy it.
Hinaben said she suggested that Nidhi use another vacant chair nearby, but the suggestion allegedly triggered an argument. Nidhi reportedly abused her, grabbed her clothes and slapped her. Hinaben also alleged that her mangalsutra broke during the altercation.
Father Also Named In Complaint
Hinaben alleged that Nidhi’s father, Chhaganbhai, subsequently arrived and grabbed her hand and slapped her. She further accused him of removing his footwear and assaulting women who intervened in the dispute.
The complaint names Parulben Patel, Alkaben Patel and Niruben Parekh as women who attempted to intervene. According to Hinaben, Chhaganbhai abused them and attacked them with his footwear before the situation subsided as other residents gathered.
Earlier Complaint Over Attack On Chairman, Police Officer
The latest complaint follows an earlier case filed by Anilbhai Nayak over an alleged assault on the society chairman and a traffic police head constable during the same dispute.
The incident reportedly began with an argument between two women over seating arrangements during the society’s Garba celebrations before escalating into allegations of physical assault.
With complaints filed by both sides, Naroda Police have begun investigating the allegations. The claims made in the complaints are yet to be established through the investigation.
