A 40-year-old mobile phone repairer was allegedly stabbed multiple times in the chest and arm during a confrontation outside a funeral gathering in Ahmedabad’s Amraiwadi area on October 20. The accused, who reportedly held a grudge over the victim sitting at a paan stall, allegedly attacked him with a knife before fleeing after issuing a death threat.
The injured man, identified as Umang Makwan, has been admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) at L.G. Hospital. Amraiwadi police have registered a case against the accused, Arvind Ramakant Yadav, and launched a search for him.
Old Dispute Over Paan Stall Turns Violent
Umang, a resident of a chawl in Navchetan Nagar, Amraiwadi, earns his livelihood repairing mobile phones. According to the complaint, he regularly visited Bajrang Paan Parlour outside Kikubhai’s chawl.
Around a month ago, Yadav allegedly picked a quarrel with Umang, questioning why he sat at the paan stall. The dispute reportedly resurfaced on October 20, when Umang went with his friend Vishal to attend the 12th-day ritual following the death of an acquaintance’s father.
The gathering was being held near Shantiniketan School, opposite the Amraiwadi Post Office.
Accused Allegedly Pulls Knife, Stabs Victim
While Umang was standing outside the building, Yadav allegedly arrived and began abusing him. He reportedly questioned why Umang kept coming near his house and spending time in the area.
The argument escalated into a scuffle, during which Yadav allegedly pulled a knife from his waistband and stabbed Umang several times on the right side of his chest and left upper arm.
As Umang cried out for help, his friend Vishal and local residents rushed to the spot. The accused allegedly fled after threatening Umang, saying he would not let him live if he saw him in the area again.
Victim Rushed To L.G. Hospital
Bleeding heavily, Umang was taken to L.G. Hospital in a private vehicle and admitted to the ICU for treatment.
Amraiwadi police have registered a case in connection with the stabbing. PSI Dakshaben Rohit has initiated legal proceedings, and further investigation is under way to trace the accused.
