Ahmedabad Man Sentenced to Life for 2019 Rickshaw Dispute Murder

An Ahmedabad City Sessions Court has sentenced Yogesh Kumar Parmar to life imprisonment for stabbing Devkinandan Rathod to death during a dispute in Amraiwadi in 2019, allegedly after an argument over a rickshaw cut off on the road.

Knife Attack Under Metro Bridge

The incident took place around 8.30 pm on March 31, 2019, under the Metro bridge near Swastik Char Rasta in Amraiwadi.

According to the prosecution, Parmar got into an argument with Rathod over a rickshaw-related road dispute. The argument escalated, with Parmar allegedly attacking Rathod with a knife and inflicting two deep wounds on the left side of his chest.

Rathod also suffered injuries to both palms while attempting to defend himself.

He was rushed to LG Hospital in a 108 ambulance but died while undergoing treatment.

Court Relies on Eyewitness and Medical Evidence

The deceased's brother, who was the complainant, appeared before the court as an eyewitness and testified that he had seen Parmar attack Rathod with the knife.

The prosecution also presented 16 witnesses and 31 pieces of evidence before Ahmedabad City Sessions Court Judge S.R. Sangani.

Hospital records, the panchnama and post-mortem findings established the extent of the injuries. The court was told that the stab wound had seriously damaged Rathod's heart and lungs, causing internal bleeding and shock.

The knife used in the attack was also recovered during the investigation.

Court Awards Life Imprisonment

The court observed that carrying a deadly weapon and using it to inflict a serious chest injury in a public place indicated an intention to kill.

The incident also amounted to a violation of provisions of the Gujarat Police Act, as restrictions on carrying arms in public places were in force at the time.

After considering the prosecution's arguments and the evidence on record, the court sentenced Yogesh Kumar Parmar to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹50,000.
