Odhav police have arrested a 36-year-old man for allegedly circulating the mobile number, photographs and residential address of a married woman relative along with obscene messages in an attempt to defame her and create discord in her marriage, police said.

The case came to light after the woman approached Odhav police, alleging that her personal details and obscene messages about her had been circulated through WhatsApp from different numbers between July 21 and September 4.
She also alleged that unidentified people began calling and messaging her after receiving her details, causing her distress and harassment.
According to the complaint, handwritten notes containing her mobile number, photographs, address and obscene content were also allegedly distributed or left at several locations, including Naroda, Ramol Toll Tax, Hatkeshwar Circle, Singarwa village and the Odhav Ring Road.
Police initially registered an FIR against an unidentified person under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
CCTV Footage Helps Police Trace Suspect
Multiple teams were formed to identify the person behind the alleged campaign. Investigators collected information from people who had received or found the notes and examined CCTV footage from the locations where they were allegedly distributed.
Police examined footage from around 100 CCTV cameras during the investigation.
A breakthrough came after another note containing the woman's personal details was found in the parking area of Jhanvi Arcade on the Odhav SP Ring Road.
CCTV footage allegedly showed a man arriving on an Activa scooter and dropping the note at the location. Investigators then tracked the scooter's route using footage from cameras installed at different points.
Police said the trail eventually led them to the suspected rider's residence.
Police Suspect Motive Was To Disrupt Marriage
Investigators identified the rider as Ravindra Panchal, a resident of Odhav. Police said Panchal and the woman were relatives and that he allegedly had one-sided feelings for her.
As the woman was already married, investigators suspect that Panchal circulated her personal information and obscene material with the alleged intention of creating problems in her marital life and eventually disrupting the marriage.
Panchal was subsequently arrested and legal proceedings have been initiated against him.
Police are continuing their investigation to determine the full extent of the alleged campaign, including the WhatsApp messages, calls and distribution of notes using the woman's personal details.
