Ahmedabad: Man Allegedly Sets Friend’s Scooter On Fire Over Financial Dispute In Bapunagar

A financial dispute allegedly turned into an act of arson in Ahmedabad’s Bapunagar area, where a 25-year-old man is accused of setting his friend’s Access scooter ablaze outside his house in the early hours of October 22.

The incident occurred around 1.30 am when the vehicle’s owner’s uncle spotted the scooter on fire and allegedly saw the suspect fleeing the scene. The family and local residents rushed to extinguish the flames, while a complaint was subsequently lodged at Bapunagar police station.

Uncle Spots Scooter On Fire At 1.30 AM

According to the complaint filed by Pravinbhai Prahladbhai Mangubhai Raikuvad, 44, who works in marketing for plastic companies, he lives in the Gujarat Housing Board area near Somnath Temple in Bapunagar.

His elder brother, Hitendrabhai, lives on the ground floor of the same building with his wife and children, Jay and Vanshika. Pravinbhai had purchased an Access scooter for his nephew, Jay, who used it regularly.

On October 21, around 6 pm, Jay parked the scooter outside the house before leaving for Chandigarh to meet a friend.

Around 1.30 am, Pravinbhai woke up to drink water and stepped outside, where he discovered that the scooter was on fire. He allegedly saw Jay’s friend, Pushprajsinh Mahendrasinh Vaghela, 25, a resident of Bapunagar, fleeing the spot.

Pravinbhai and nearby residents immediately poured water on the vehicle and managed to bring the fire under control.

Financial Dispute Suspected To Be Motive

According to the complaint, Jay later told his uncle that Pushprajsinh had allegedly set the scooter on fire because of a previous dispute over a financial transaction.

Based on the complaint, a case has been registered against Pushprajsinh at Bapunagar police station. Police have launched an investigation into the incident and the alleged motive behind the act.
