An advocate intern was allegedly attacked with an iron pipe by his former fiancée’s husband and two other men near Lalgebi Ashram in Ahmedabad’s Ghuma area on Monday morning, leaving him with injuries to his head, right hand and left leg.

The incident reportedly stemmed from a dispute over phone calls and WhatsApp messages exchanged between the complainant, Kaushikbhai Maheshbhai Vadher, 26, and Nisha, who is now married to the main accused, Dilipbhai Bharatbhai Dodia.

According to the FIR registered at Bopal police station, the accused allegedly assaulted Vadher outside Lalgebi Ashram around 9.05 am after he had stopped there to offer prayers while travelling to work.

Engagement Dispute Allegedly Led to Assault

Vadher, who is currently undergoing an internship with an advocate near Kargil petrol pump in Ahmedabad, told police that his engagement with Nisha had been arranged by Dodia’s father-in-law around three months earlier. The two subsequently remained in contact through phone calls and WhatsApp messages.

However, around one-and-a-half months ago, Dodia allegedly discovered the communication between them. Following this, members of Dodia’s family approached Vadher’s father to resolve the dispute.

The complainant stated that on September 25, 2021, he travelled to his native Bhalgam village in Surendranagar district with his uncle, Nareshbhai Vadher, and community leaders. A meeting was held between the two sides, during which they reportedly agreed to settle the matter. It was also decided that Vadher and Nisha would no longer communicate through calls or messages.

Three Men Allegedly Attack Advocate Intern

Recounting Monday’s incident, Vadher told police that he left for work on his motorcycle at around 8.50 am. He stopped at Lalgebi Ashram in Ghuma to offer prayers and returned to his motorcycle at approximately 9.05 am.

As he was preparing to leave, an unidentified man allegedly approached him, grabbed him and began assaulting him with fists. The man then dragged him towards the road, where a black four-wheeler bearing the words 'Jai Mataji' was parked.

Dodia and another unidentified man were allegedly inside the vehicle. They joined in abusing and assaulting Vadher. While two of the men restrained him, the other unidentified accused allegedly retrieved an iron pipe and other weapons from a Thar vehicle and handed the pipe to Dodia.

Dodia allegedly struck Vadher on the back of his head with the iron pipe, causing a bleeding injury. He also allegedly hit him on the head, right hand and left foot, injuring his fingers.

Passers-by Rescue Victim; 108 Ambulance Called

Several people gathered at the scene after hearing the commotion and intervened to rescue Vadher. The three accused allegedly continued abusing him and threatened to kill him if they found him alone before leaving the spot.

Vadher later received his mobile phone from a passer-by, who had reportedly recovered it during the altercation. He then contacted his brother, Nareshbhai Armalbhai Vadher, who called the 108 emergency ambulance service.

The injured man was taken to Sola Civil Hospital and admitted to the emergency ward for treatment.

Bopal Police Register Case

Vadher alleged that the assault was carried out with a common intention and was linked to the earlier dispute over his engagement and subsequent communication with Nisha.

Bopal police have registered a case against Dodia and two unidentified men. Police are investigating the incident and attempting to establish the identities of the other accused.
