The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has started installing traffic signals at the four-road junction where the newly inaugurated Makarba-Corporate Road overbridge, following traffic congestion and repeated police requests.
The move is expected to ease traffic movement and eliminate the additional 200-metre detour that motorists have been taking to reach Prahladnagar.

Police Had Flagged Traffic Risks Before Inauguration
The overbridge has faced criticism since its inauguration because it ends at the four-lane stretch of Corporate Road, raising concerns over traffic congestion and the risk of accidents.
According to sources, the police department submitted a written representation to the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation on the day of the inauguration, requesting traffic signals at the four-road junction to ensure smooth movement.
However, the civic administration did not act on the request immediately. The bridge's opening was followed by heavy traffic congestion and confusion, forcing senior police officers, political leaders and municipal officials to intervene.
Authorities subsequently introduced a 'capsule system' to reduce the risk of accidents. Under this arrangement, motorists travelling towards Prahladnagar had to take an additional detour of around 200 metres.
Repeated Police Requests Went Unanswered
The police department reportedly approached different AMC officials three to four times, both verbally and in writing, seeking the installation of traffic signals.
The delay fuelled criticism of the civic administration, with questions being raised over coordination between the police and municipal authorities.
The issue remained unresolved amid growing public inconvenience and criticism over the bridge's traffic management arrangements.
Following repeated complaints and media reports, the civic administration has now begun work on installing signals at the junction.
AMC Standing Committee Chairman Confirms Work
Confirming the development, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation Standing Committee chairman said materials for the installation were unloaded at the site on Friday, October 30, and work had begun.
He said the installation would be completed in the next few days, after which the traffic signal system would be formally made operational.
The new arrangement is expected to improve traffic management at the junction, make the route towards Prahladnagar more convenient and reduce the risk of accidents.
