A 72-year-old man died after six days of treatment after an unidentified vehicle hit him while he was crossing the road near the Old Cattle Market crossroads in Ahmedabad’s Isanpur area on October 10.

The deceased, Rawatsinh Modsinh Chauhan, suffered a severe head injury in the accident. The K Division Traffic Police have registered a case against the unidentified driver following a complaint by his son and launched an investigation.

Man Was Returning After Buying Matchbox

Chauhan, a native of Padiv village in Rajasthan’s Sirohi district, lived in a godown near Meera Crossroads in Ahmedabad. He worked at Jay Ambe Sound Corporation, a shop near Bhulabhai Crossroads.

According to the complaint, Chauhan was sitting at an Amul parlour near the Old Cattle Market crossroads at around 8 pm on October 10. He went to a shop across the road to buy a matchbox and was crossing the junction on his way back when a vehicle allegedly approached at high speed and struck him.

The impact threw Chauhan onto the road, leaving him with a serious injury to the back of his head.

Shifted to Hospital After Accident

People gathered at the scene and arranged for Chauhan to be taken to L.G. Hospital in a 108 ambulance. His employer, Girishbhai Batheja, informed his son, Madhosinh, who lives in Rajasthan, about the accident.

Chauhan was later shifted to the intensive care unit at Civil Hospital for further treatment. He died on October 16, six days after the accident.

Police Examine CCTV Footage

As Chauhan’s son was occupied with his father’s treatment, he filed the formal complaint on October 16 at the post-mortem room of Civil Hospital.

The K Division Traffic Police registered a case against the unidentified driver and began investigating the circumstances of the collision. Investigators are also collecting CCTV footage from the surrounding area to identify the vehicle and its driver.
