A request for ₹500 a day towards household expenses allegedly triggered a violent attack on an elderly couple in Ahmedabad’s Kubernagar area, with their younger son allegedly throwing his disabled father off a cot and his wife striking the mother on the forehead with a pressure cooker lid.

The incident came to light after a neighbour called a 108 ambulance, following which the injured couple was taken to Asarwa Civil Hospital. Sardarnagar police have registered a case against the son, Vicky Charan, and his wife, Anjali, and launched an investigation.

According to the mother’s complaint, the dispute arose amid financial hardship at home, after she asked her younger son to contribute ₹500 daily towards household expenses.

Dispute Over Household Expenses Turns Violent

The elderly couple live in the Charanvas area of Kubernagar with their elder son, Surya. Their younger son, Vicky, had married Anjali four years ago, and the couple had previously been living in a rented house in Rabarivas near Maya Cinema Road.

According to the complaint, Vicky, Anjali and their young daughter had been staying at the parental home for six days before the incident.

On the night of October 20, the mother returned home after dropping off her son-in-law at Naroda Patiya. Citing the family’s financial difficulties, she asked Vicky to contribute ₹500 a day towards household expenses.

The request allegedly angered Vicky and Anjali, who began abusing the elderly couple. When the parents objected to the language being used, the argument allegedly escalated into a physical assault.

Disabled Father Allegedly Dragged Out Of House

According to the complaint, Vicky dragged his disabled father from his chair and took him outside the house, where he allegedly beat him. Meanwhile, Anjali allegedly scratched her mother-in-law on the neck and chest.

When the elder son, Surya, intervened to protect his parents, the couple allegedly assaulted him and tore his clothes.

The violence reportedly continued the following night, October 21, when Vicky and Anjali were leaving the house with their belongings.

When the father questioned them, Vicky allegedly knocked him off his cot. Anjali then allegedly brought a pressure cooker lid from the kitchen and struck her mother-in-law on the forehead, leaving her seriously injured.

Neighbour Calls 108 Ambulance

After hearing the commotion, a neighbour called the 108 emergency ambulance service. The injured couple was taken to Asarwa Civil Hospital for treatment.

While undergoing treatment in Trauma Ward No. 7, the mother reportedly spoke about the family’s financial struggles and her anguish over the alleged assault.

She said her husband’s disability had made it difficult for the family to manage its expenses and that the request for ₹500 a day was made because Vicky and his family had been staying with them.

The mother expressed her distress that the son she had raised had allegedly assaulted his disabled father, while her daughter-in-law had struck her with a pressure cooker lid.

Sardarnagar police have registered a case based on the mother’s complaint and are investigating the allegations against Vicky and Anjali.
