Garba Night Robbery in Ahmedabad: Two Men Assault Rider in Asarwa, Flee With ₹1.50 Lakh Motorcycle

A taxi driver was allegedly assaulted and robbed of his ₹1.50 lakh Royal Enfield Bullet by two men in Ahmedabad’s Asarwa area late on Sunday night after their Suzuki Burgman scooter slipped into a pothole while overtaking him. The Shahibaug police have registered a case against the two accused, identified as Obhu and Akash, and launched an investigation.

The incident took place outside the gate of Bapalal Ghanchi Ni Chali in the Chamanpura area of Asarwa on the night of October 18, when the victim, Sahil Harshadbhai Maheriya, was returning home after attending a garba event with his family.

Maheriya, a 27-year-old who lives in Radharaman Society opposite Anil Mill in Bapunagar and works as a taxi driver, had gone to Rohidasnagar in Meghaninagar with his family to watch garba celebrations. At around 11.30 pm, he was riding his Bullet with his wife, while his relative Nileshbhai was following on another two-wheeler with his family.

Accused Assaulted the Rider Over Scooter Damage

According to the complaint, two men travelling on a Suzuki Burgman approached from behind and attempted to overtake Maheriya. Their scooter reportedly slipped and fell because of a pothole on the road. The two men then stopped Maheriya and questioned him, allegedly demanding to know why he had hit their scooter. They also insisted that he pay for the damage caused to the Burgman.

When Maheriya refused, the duo allegedly assaulted him with punches and kicks, striking him in the face and leaving him bleeding. Nileshbhai intervened to protect him but was also involved in a scuffle with the accused.

₹1.50 Lakh Bullet Taken by Force

Despite Maheriya offering to pay for medical treatment and the expenses, the situation escalated. According to the complaint, the Burgman rider, identified as Obhu, told his accomplice, Akash, to take the scooter while he took Maheriya’s Bullet.

The two men allegedly seized Maheriya’s Royal Enfield Bullet, valued at ₹1.50 lakh, and fled the scene. Maheriya was taken by a 108 ambulance to the trauma ward of Ahmedabad Civil Hospital for treatment.

The Shahibaug police have registered a case against Obhu and Akash under robbery and other relevant provisions and launched an investigation.
