Ahmedabad Food Safety Drive: 3 Units Sealed, 2,666 Kg Food Products Seized

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation's Food Safety Department has sealed three food businesses in Vatwa, Vejalpur and Chandlodia for alleged violations of food safety norms, while suspending the sale of 2,666 kg of food products with an estimated market value of ₹9.22 lakh.

The action was taken during inspections of food businesses across the city, with officials citing violations including operating without the mandatory FSSAI registration or licence, unhygienic conditions and the use of prohibited food colours.

Vatwa Unit Sealed Over Lack Of FSSAI Licence

The department sealed MM Food Products in Vatwa after finding that the unit was manufacturing food products without the required FSSAI licence or registration.

Officials also reported unsanitary conditions at the production and storage premises and alleged violations of packaging and labelling requirements.

A total of 2,516 kg of food products, including namkeen, chilli sauce, chutney and cornflour, was placed under suspension. The estimated market value of the seized quantity was ₹1.75 lakh.

Vejalpur Sweet Shop Used Banned Food Colour

At Mateshwari Chawana & Sweet Mart in Vejalpur, officials found the alleged use of a prohibited synthetic food colour in prepared sweets.

The premises were sealed in the interest of public health, while 150 kg of sweets valued at around ₹30,000 was placed under suspension.

Chandlodia Food Centre Operating Without Licence

The department also sealed Gujarat Fry Center on Vishwakarma Mandir Road in Chandlodia.

Officials found that the business was operating without the required FSSAI licence or registration and reported unhygienic conditions in areas used for food preparation, handling and storage.

Sale Of 1,140 Kg Substandard Ghee Halted

In a separate action, the department suspended the sale of 1,140 kg of ghee at Mahavir Ghee Bhandar in Madhupura.

The ghee had previously been declared substandard in a Food Laboratory test report. The quantity comprised 76 tins of 15 kg each, with an estimated market value of ₹7.17 lakh.

The AMC Food Safety Department said inspections and legal action would continue against food businesses operating without licences, maintaining unhygienic premises, using prohibited food colours, violating packaging and labelling rules or selling products that fail to meet prescribed quality standards.
