Ahmedabad Extends School Holiday To August 1 As Rain Threat Persists, Students Get Weekend Break

The Ahmedabad district administration has extended the closure of all schools and colleges for Saturday, August 1, following the India Meteorological Department's (IMD) continuing alert for heavy rainfall across parts of Gujarat.

The latest order comes a day after educational institutions were shut on Friday, effectively giving students a two-day weekend break as authorities remain cautious over the evolving weather situation.

Holiday Applies To All Educational Institutions

Issued by the District Education Officer (DEO) on the instructions of the Ahmedabad Collector, the order covers government, grant-in-aid and self-financed primary, secondary and higher secondary schools, teacher training institutes, and colleges across the district.

All academic activities will remain suspended on Saturday.

Institutions Told To Inform Parents, Students

Schools and colleges have been directed to immediately communicate the extended holiday to students, parents and staff through WhatsApp, SMS, phone calls or any other available communication channel.

The administration has also instructed educational institutions to follow only official directions issued by the district authorities.

Decision Based On Weather Forecast

The extension has been announced in view of the IMD's forecast of continue rainfall and the possibility of adverse weather conditions, even though the impending deep depression eased over Ahmedabad and surrounding areas.

District authorities said the measure has been taken as a precaution to ensure the safety of students, teachers and other staff members.

Review After The Weekend

The administration said the situation will continue to be monitored in coordination with weather and disaster management agencies.

Any decision regarding the reopening of schools and colleges after the weekend will be communicated separately based on the prevailing weather conditions.
