An argument over an auto-rickshaw parked in a no-parking zone allegedly escalated into a physical altercation with traffic police and a Traffic Regulation Brigade (TRB) personnel near the Barrel Market slope in Ahmedabad’s Danilimda area on Wednesday evening.
The incident occurred around 6 pm during peak-hour traffic congestion, when a police constable and a TRB personnel asked the driver to move the vehicle for obstructing traffic. The driver and two men accompanying him allegedly abused the personnel and scuffled with them when asked to leave.
The Danilimda police have registered a case against all three men for allegedly obstructing police personnel in the discharge of their lawful duties.
Three Men Allegedly Attack Traffic Personnel
According to the complaint, Dajiraj Nagjibhai Rathod, 32, an unarmed police constable with the Ahmedabad City Traffic Police, was on traffic regulation duty at the Danilimda Barrel Market point from 3 pm to 11 pm on Wednesday.
He was deployed alongside TRB personnel Bhagatsinh Kshatriya, Bhupendra Prasad, Naresh Patni and Labhesh Amrutbhai, as well as Home Guard personnel Yogeshkumar Jagdishbhai.
Around 6 pm, Rathod and Bhagatsinh noticed an auto-rickshaw parked near the Barrel Market slope in a way that obstructed the movement of traffic. They instructed the driver to move the vehicle, explaining that the stretch was a no-parking zone and traffic was heavy.
The driver and two men seated in the rear allegedly got out, argued with the personnel and used abusive language.
When the officers asked them to leave, the trio allegedly became more aggressive and scuffled with Bhagatsinh, obstructing the personnel from carrying out their duties.
PCR Van Takes Trio To Police Station
Other TRB and Home Guard personnel stationed nearby rushed to the spot after the altercation. TRB personnel Bhupendra subsequently contacted the police control room, following which a police control room (PCR) van arrived.
The three men and the auto-rickshaw were taken to the Danilimda police station.
During questioning, the driver was identified as Abdulhamza Abdulsamad Shaikh, 19, a resident of Shah-e-Alam. The other two were identified as Sahil Dostmahammad Shaikh, 19, of Danilimda, and Mahammadayan Mahammadyunus Shaikh, 20, of Gomtipur.
