Which Areas Will Come Under Each Crime Branch Unit?
Unit-1 – Vatva: Led by PI Jebaliya and his team, the unit will cover Vatva, Isanpur, Narol, GIDC Vatva, Ramol and Khokhra police station jurisdictions.
Unit-2 – Odhav: Led by PI Dhakhda and his team, this unit will cover Odhav, Nikol, Naroda, Krishnanagar, Sardarnagar, Bapunagar, Rakhiyal, Amraiwadi and Gomtipur.
Unit-3 – Chandkheda: The upcoming unit will cover Chandkheda, Motera, Sabarmati, Ranip, Naranpura, Vadaj and the Airport areas.
Unit-4 – Bodakdev: The fourth unit will cover Bodakdev, Vastrapur, Sola, Ghatlodia, Gujarat University, Sarkhej and Vejalpur.
Crime Branch Response Time To Come Down
Until now, Crime Branch teams responding to incidents across Ahmedabad were dispatched from the headquarters at Gaekwad Haveli.
Police said reaching distant areas such as Nikol, Odhav and Vatva in the east, or Bodakdev and Chandkheda in the west, could take 30 to 45 minutes, particularly because of traffic and the city's expanding boundaries.
With Crime Branch personnel now being positioned closer to different parts of the city, police expect the 'golden hour' response time to fall to around 10 to 15 minutes.
The decentralised model is therefore intended not only to speed up investigations after serious incidents but also to keep Crime Branch personnel on the ground, allowing them to monitor known trouble spots and anti-social elements more closely.
