Ahmedabad Constable Caught Taking ₹6,000 Bribe as Bootlegger Alleges Monthly Payoff Demand

In a twist to an Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) trap in Gujarat, a man who allegedly admitted to transporting and selling country liquor approached the agency claiming that a police constable was demanding a monthly bribe to allow his illegal business to continue.

The ACB on Tuesday caught Miturajsinh alias Montubhai Mahavirsinh Chudasama, an unarmed constable attached to the D-Staff of Vivekanandnagar Police Station in Ahmedabad Rural, allegedly while accepting a ₹6,000 bribe.

Monthly Bribe Allegedly Sought

According to the ACB, the complainant stated that he and his cousin were engaged in the illegal transportation and sale of country liquor within the Vivekanandnagar police station limits.

He alleged that the constable demanded ₹12,000 every month, claiming the money was to be shared among three police personnel at ₹4,000 each in exchange for allowing the liquor trade to continue without police action.

The complainant told the ACB that he had already paid ₹6,000 and was later asked to pay the remaining amount. Instead of making the payment, he approached the ACB and lodged a complaint.

Constable Caught Red-Handed

Based on the complaint, the ACB laid a trap near Badodara village crossroads on the Hathijan Circle–Khatraj Road in Daskroi taluka.

Officials said the constable allegedly accepted the remaining ₹6,000 before being caught red-handed. The tainted currency was recovered during the operation.

The trap was carried out by the Anand unit of the ACB under the supervision of senior officials from the Ahmedabad unit.

Prohibition Angle Also Under Scanner

The case has also brought the complainant under the scanner, as his statement reportedly includes an admission that he was involved in the illegal sale and transportation of country liquor.

Police officials said it is now being examined whether a separate prohibition case should be registered against the complainant based on his statement and the evidence collected during the investigation.

While the ACB probe will focus on the alleged bribery by the police constable, authorities said the prohibition aspect will be investigated separately.
