The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation spent ₹31.32 lakh on food and snack packets for residents trapped in flooded homes across Gota, Sarkhej, Bopal, Vastral, and Madhumalti after torrential rains battered the city in late July.
The severe downpour on 23 July left several low-lying areas heavily waterlogged, preventing affected families from cooking in their homes. To mitigate the crisis, civic authorities organized relief distributions over four separate days—from 24 to 26 July and again on 31 July—delivering morning and evening meals directly to inundated neighbourhoods.
Civic Body Deploys 34,000 Meal and Snack Packs
Civic records show that municipal teams distributed 29,977 food packets alongside 4,140 snack packs in the affected zones. The unit cost for food packets varied between ₹95 and ₹110, while snack packs were procured at rates ranging from ₹19.05 to ₹59 per packet.
Dipak Panchal, Chairman of the Health and Solid Waste Management Committee, stated that emergency arrangements were rushed to sub-merged residential clusters. "There was extensive waterlogging during the monsoon, with rainwater entering homes. We distributed food packets and snacks during this period, sourcing items from available suppliers and dispatching them immediately to affected areas," Panchal said.
North West Zone Receives Maximum Emergency Supplies
The North West Zone registered the highest volume of relief operations, with authorities delivering 12,960 food packets across badly hit localities like Gota and Bopal.
Municipal distribution teams targeted flooded pockets based on localized demand to ensure consistent morning and evening meal deliveries throughout the four-day emergency response effort.
