In an unusual theft reported from Ahmedabad’s Vatva GIDC area, an unidentified thief allegedly stole a milch cow and two calves from a cattle shed outside a house in Vinoba Bhave Nagar while the family slept. The animals went missing sometime between 12.30 am and 5 am on October 7, following which the cattle owner approached Vatva GIDC police.

Cattle Owner Finds Animals Missing At 5 Am

Jethabhai Hajabhai Bharwad, 28, lives in House No. 2047 near the water tank in Vinjhol GIDC, Vatva, and earns his livelihood by rearing cattle and selling milk. He has around nine cows.

According to his complaint, the family had dinner on October 6 before sitting outside the house and going to sleep at around 12.30 am. The cattle were tied in a shed outside the house at the time.

When Jethabhai woke up around 5 am on October 7 to milk the cows, he found that a large milch cow and two calves were missing.

He searched the surrounding area and nearby localities but could not trace the animals. He subsequently approached the Vatva GIDC police station and lodged a complaint against unidentified persons.

Police Examine CCTV Footage

Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the theft.

The fact that a cow and two calves were taken together has led police to suspect that the theft may have been planned. Investigators suspect the animals could have been loaded into a vehicle rather than taken away on foot.

Police are examining CCTV footage from roads around Vinjhol and nearby areas to look for suspicious loading rickshaws, pickup vehicles or Chhota Hathi-type vehicles that may have been used to transport the animals.
