A late-night dispute over loud music at a café near LJ College in Ahmedabad’s Eagle Chowk allegedly turned violent on Wednesday, leaving a 23-year-old labourer with a fractured nose. Sarkhej police have registered a case after the man accused four people of assaulting him with a wooden block and an iron pipe.
The complainant, Mohammad Sufiyan Hanifbhai Ghanchi, had stopped at the café for tea with his friend Rehan Ansari after finishing work at around 11 pm on October 14.
Dispute Over Speaker Volume Escalates
According to the complaint, a man identified as Uvesh was playing music loudly on a speaker near the café counter. Ghanchi asked him to turn down the volume, but the request allegedly led to a confrontation. Ghanchi and Ansari continued having tea without pursuing the argument.
The situation escalated after Ghanchi returned from buying a cigarette. Another man, identified as Umesh, allegedly grabbed him by his T-shirt, dragged him outside and pushed him against a parked Suzuki Burgman scooter, causing him to fall.
Three other men, including Uvesh, Laden and an unidentified person, allegedly joined the assault.
Friend Also Attacked While Trying to Intervene
The complaint alleges that Laden and Uvesh brought a wooden block and an iron pipe from nearby and used them to strike Ghanchi.
When Ansari tried to intervene and stop the attack, Uvesh allegedly punched him in the face. People present at the café eventually stepped in and separated the men.
Labourer Treated for Fractured Nose
Ghanchi’s brother later took him to Sola Civil Hospital in an emergency ambulance. Doctors reportedly found that he had sustained a fracture to his nose.
Sarkhej police registered a case on Thursday, October 15, and have begun investigating the alleged assault.
