An auto-rickshaw driver was arrested after allegedly engaging in obscene behaviour with a 23-year-old woman travelling alone to work in Ahmedabad's Rakhiyal area and threatening to kill her when she protested, police said.

The incident allegedly took place on September 14 inside a moving auto-rickshaw between Rakhiyal Crossroads and Potliya Crossroads. The accused was traced and arrested using the registration number noted by the woman.

Woman Was Travelling Alone To Work

The 23-year-old woman works in the marketing department of a private company near Shyamal Crossroads.

On September 14, at around 6.15 pm, she left home for work and hired an auto-rickshaw near the municipal school at Rakhiyal Crossroads to travel to Potliya Crossroads. She was the sole passenger in the rear seat.

According to her complaint, when the auto-rickshaw passed Seth C.L. College and reached the area opposite Prakash Petrol Pump, the driver repeatedly looked back at her.

Driver Allegedly Exposed Himself Inside Moving Auto

The woman alleged that while the vehicle was in motion, the driver pulled down his trousers, exposed his private parts, made obscene gestures and passed lewd comments.

Shocked by the alleged behaviour, she raised an alarm and protested.

The driver allegedly abused her and threatened to kill her if she disclosed the incident to anyone.

Woman Forced Out Near Potliya Crossroads

The accused allegedly forced the woman out of the moving route shortly before Potliya Crossroads and fled from the spot.

Despite being frightened, the woman noted down the registration number of the auto-rickshaw.

She later narrated the incident to her friends. Encouraged by them, she approached Rakhiyal Police Station and lodged a complaint.

Police Trace Driver Through Registration Number

Acting on the vehicle's registration number, the Rakhiyal police traced and arrested the accused, identified as Nazar Ahmed alias Shahrukh, 28, a resident of Isanpur.

Police have initiated further investigation into the case.

Accused Has Six Previous Cases, Police Say

According to police, Nazar Ahmed has a criminal record involving six previous offences, including a case of attempted murder.

Police also said he has been lodged in Bhuj Jail twice under the Prevention of Anti-Social Activities (PASA) Act.

The investigation into the latest case is underway.
