Ahmedabad Airport Gold Heist Cracked: 3 Arrested, Serving Policeman Named as Alleged Mastermind in ₹64 Lakh Robbery

A month after two men were robbed of 600 grams of gold worth around ₹64 lakh near Ahmedabad airport by people posing as police officers, the Ahmedabad Airport Police have arrested three accused and identified a serving policeman as the alleged mastermind behind the sensational robbery, according to investigators.

The case, which initially appeared to be the work of an organised gang impersonating police personnel, took a dramatic turn after CCTV footage and technical surveillance led investigators to serving police personnel allegedly linked to the crime.

Robbery Took Place After Gold Collection Near Airport

The incident occurred on June 27, when two relatives of a Uttar Pradesh-based trader collected a consignment of 600 grams of gold from a contact near Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport.

According to the complaint, the duo was intercepted by people posing as police officers shortly after collecting the gold. They were allegedly forced into a vehicle, assaulted and robbed before being abandoned near Apollo Circle. A woman was also alleged to have been part of the operation.

CCTV Trail Led Investigators to Police Personnel

Airport Police scanned CCTV footage from the airport and surrounding roads before identifying the suspects. Investigators later matched the footage with witness statements, leading them to two serving policemen attached to the police escort unit.

The investigation subsequently widened, resulting in the arrest of three accused. Police have also identified a serving policeman as the alleged mastermind behind the conspiracy, while further efforts are underway to trace other suspects and recover the remaining stolen property.

Probe Continues Into Wider Conspiracy

Police are continuing to investigate whether additional individuals were involved in planning or executing the robbery. Officials are also examining the movement of the stolen gold and the roles played by each accused.

The case has raised serious concerns after investigators found alleged involvement of serving police personnel in a robbery carried out under the guise of law enforcement. Further investigation is in progress.
