Ahmedabad Airport Drug Bust: Myanmar National Held With 6 Kg Hydroponic Marijuana Worth ₹6 Crore

The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Ahmedabad Customs has arrested a Myanmar national after allegedly recovering 6.07 kg of hydroponic marijuana worth ₹6 crore from her trolley bag at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport.

The passenger had arrived in Ahmedabad from Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, on August 31 aboard VietJet Air flight VJ-1805, according to Ahmedabad Customs.

Drugs Hidden In Specially Created Cavity

AIU officers intercepted the passenger following passenger profiling, X-ray scanning and a signal from a sniffer dog, officials said.

During a detailed examination of her baggage, officers detected a specially created cavity and false layer inside the trolley bag.

A search of the concealed compartment led to the recovery of five vacuum-packed transparent polythene packets containing a green-coloured substance.

Preliminary testing indicated that the substance was ganja, identified by officials as hydroponic marijuana.

The total weight of the recovered contraband was 6,073.7 grams, with an estimated market value of ₹6 crore.

Passenger Arrested Under NDPS Act

Ahmedabad Customs seized the contraband under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, and arrested the passenger.

The case has now been taken up for further investigation.

Probe Underway Into Drug Trafficking Network

Investigators are working to establish the source of the hydroponic marijuana, its intended destination and the passenger's alleged role in transporting the contraband.

Authorities are also examining whether the seizure is linked to a wider drug trafficking network operating across international routes.
