₹30,000 Worth Of Copper, Brass And Steel Utensils Stolen From Ahmedabad Crematorium Rooftop

A sack containing copper, brass and steel utensils worth around ₹30,000 was allegedly stolen from the rooftop of a house at the Muktidham crematorium in Isanpur, with police registering a case against an unidentified person.

The utensils had reportedly been donated by families during funeral ceremonies and were being stored on the rooftop before they vanished on Thursday.

Priest Leaves For Funeral, Sack Disappears

According to the complaint filed with Isanpur police, Rameshbhai Vegad, 56, works as a priest at the temple inside the Muktidham crematorium and is also responsible for its maintenance.

Families attending funeral ceremonies at the crematorium often donate small utensils made of copper, brass and steel. Vegad said the donated items were collected in a sack and kept on the roof of the house where he lives.

On August 27, Vegad left his home around 10 am to attend a funeral in Vasna. When he returned around 5.30 pm, his son Harit told him that some utensils had been found lying on the ground behind the house.

Rooftop Search Reveals Missing Sack

After being informed, Vegad asked his co-worker, Sumit Manojbhai Marathi, to check the rooftop.

Sumit went upstairs and allegedly found that the sack containing the utensils was missing.

Vegad and his family then searched the crematorium premises and surrounding area, apparently hoping that the sack had been moved. However, they could not locate it and suspected that someone had stolen it.

The missing items consisted of around three-quarters of a sack of small copper, brass and steel utensils, collectively valued at approximately ₹30,000.

Police Check CCTV Footage

Isanpur police have registered a case against an unidentified person and begun an investigation.

Investigators are expected to examine CCTV footage from the crematorium and nearby areas to identify the person allegedly involved in the theft.

The investigation is underway.
