A 27-year-old labourer was allegedly stabbed in the neck and robbed of ₹8,200 in cash and a mobile phone by three men near Kalupur railway station in Ahmedabad on Thursday night.
The victim, Mohammad Imran Hussain, was sleeping on a cot near a public toilet beside Belur Guest House, close to the railway station’s inner gate, when the incident took place, according to a complaint filed at Kalupur police station on October 16.
Hussain, a casual labourer specialising in bricklaying, told police that he had worked at Madhupura on October 15. After finishing work, he reached the Kalupur area around 7.30 pm, had dinner near Sarangpur Circle and later settled down to sleep near the public toilet.
At around 10 pm, a man identified as Akhtar approached him and asked how much money he was carrying. When Hussain said he had ₹8,200, another accused, identified as Sarfu, allegedly held his hands while Akhtar took the cash from his trouser pocket.
Labourer Stabbed After Resisting Robbery
During the robbery, Sarfu allegedly took Hussain’s Samsung mobile phone. When Hussain resisted, a third accused, identified as Bharat, allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed him in the neck.
Hussain raised an alarm as he began bleeding. The three men allegedly fled with the cash and mobile phone.
A man identified as Panditji, who worked at the public toilet, called an ambulance after hearing the commotion. The 108 emergency service took Hussain to Ahmedabad Civil Hospital, where he was admitted to the trauma ward.
Hussain was conscious when police recorded his statement, and his treatment was under way.
