5,700 Kg Flour, Sugar Seized From Unhygienic Bakery in Ahmedabad; 458 Kg Spices Detained in AMC Food Safety Drive

The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has launched a crackdown on food businesses allegedly operating in unhygienic conditions and selling adulterated products, sealing six units across the city after laboratory reports flagged irregularities.

The civic food department seized 5,700 kg of flour and sugar worth ₹1.95 lakh from Asian Bakery in Danilimda and destroyed another 220 kg of flour used to prepare bread buns in unhygienic conditions.

Asian Bakery Sealed Over Hygiene Violations

During a surprise inspection at Asian Bakery in Danilimda, AMC officials allegedly found the premises operating without valid registration or a licence. Packets reportedly carried bogus licence numbers.

Officials also found bakery products being prepared amid dirt, a foul smell and a large number of flies.

The civic team sealed the bakery and seized 5,700 kg of flour and sugar. Another 220 kg of flour worth ₹16,110, which was allegedly being used to prepare bread buns in the unhygienic premises, was destroyed on the spot.

Six Units Face Action

The AMC food department also took action against other establishments after food samples failed laboratory checks or officials found unhygienic conditions.

• HL Frankie, Navrangpura: A butter sample was found to be substandard, while the premises were reportedly unhygienic.
• Delhi 6 Paratha Point, Navrangpura: A medium-fat paneer sample was found to be substandard. Officials also found heavy dirt in the kitchen and sealed the outlet.
• Jai Somnath Tea Stall, Gitamandir: A previously collected sample was found to be uncertified, while tea and snacks were allegedly prepared in unhygienic conditions.
• PM Foods, Kubernagar: Following the detection of starch in MAPEE turmeric, officials detained 548 kg of turmeric, chilli and coriander powder worth ₹2.78 lakh at the repacking unit. The quantity had reportedly been sourced from another state, prompting the AMC to inform the concerned state authorities.
• Sapphire Foods India Pvt Ltd (KFC), Prahladnagar: The restaurant was inspected after the total polar compounds (TPC) reading of the oil used for frying food was recorded at 29.5, following which the unit was sealed.

AMC Warns Of Stricter Checks

The civic body's food department said inspections would be intensified across Ahmedabad in the coming days.

Officials said food samples would be collected from establishments across the city and sent for laboratory testing. Units found violating food safety norms could face sealing and other legal action based on the findings.
