Acting on a tip-off, a Danilimda police team reached the Site and Service area near Ganj Shahid Cemetery at around 8.30 am on August 9. Police allegedly found 39-year-old Siraj Anwardin Sheikh, a Danilimda resident, with meat near a hut.

According to police, Sheikh stated that he did not have a permit to possess the meat. An electric weighing machine was brought to the spot, after which the seized meat was weighed.
Police informed the sanitary inspector at the Jamalpur slaughterhouse, and a sample was collected, sealed and sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for examination.
The remaining meat was disposed of by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation in accordance with the prescribed procedure.
Police said the FSL subsequently determined that the sample was of bovine origin.
Two others named
During questioning, Sheikh allegedly told investigators that he had obtained the meat with the assistance of Faizan Istikhaar Ansari, a resident of Narol, and Ruhan Khan Pathan, a resident of Shah Alam in Danilimda.
Police have named all three men in the case.
A case has been registered at Danilimda Police Station under relevant provisions of the Gujarat Animal Preservation Act, along with sections of the Gujarat Provincial Municipal Corporations Act and the Gujarat Police Act.
Police are now investigating the alleged source of the meat and whether other individuals were involved in its procurement, transportation or sale.
