The recovered substance was examined by a forensic science laboratory officer at Subhash Bridge police chowki.
A preliminary examination allegedly indicated that the substance was charas. Two pieces were recovered from the packet, with the net weight recorded at 490 grams.
Police seized the suspected contraband, along with the plastic bag and cellophane tape used to wrap it. A mobile phone valued at ₹1,000 was also seized.
Two Women Named As Accused
During questioning, Pathan allegedly told investigators that he received a call around 12.30 pm from a woman identified as Sunita.
He allegedly told police that Sunita informed him that her sister, Soni, had 500 grams of charas available for sale. According to his statement, Soni allegedly delivered the substance to him between 3 pm and 3.30 pm.
Police have named Soni, a resident of Chenpur, and Sunita as accused in the case. Both women are yet to be arrested.
Probe Under NDPS Act Underway
Pathan was arrested around 12.15 am on August 20 under provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The investigation is underway to trace the source of the suspected charas, establish the alleged roles of Soni and Sunita and determine whether Pathan was involved in supplying the contraband to other people.
